# Seam for Mac > Seam is a Mac menu bar app, designed and built by Brandon Holcombe of H Creative, that files Finder drags into the right folder and arranges windows in grids you design. It's free to try for 14 days, then a one-time $9.99 unlock on the Mac App Store. It needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later. ## Filing files - Drag files from Finder toward Seam's icon in the menu bar. The drop-down opens with your folders, the likely one first, and a drop moves the files there. - Rules pick the likely folder from a file's type, extension, name, source folder, or whether it's a screenshot, and can file into year or year-and-month subfolders. Seam never reads what's inside a file. - Seam also files from Finder's right-click menu, the Shortcuts app, and Sort Desktop. - Every move can be undone from the drop-down or the History window. Seam never deletes files; a file it replaces goes to the Trash. ## Arranging windows - The drop-down moves the front window into a cell of your grid, to the left or right half, to fill the screen, or to the center. - Hold Shift while dragging a window to a screen edge, or to another window's edge, to dock it. Without Shift, nothing snaps. Drag the gap between two docked windows to resize both. - Hold Option while dragging to drop a window into a grid cell; Option-Command shows a 4 × 4 grid and Option-Shift a 6 × 6 grid. - Build grids in Settings › Layout: drag dividers in from an edge, or Option-click a cell to split it. Seam names each grid by its shape, such as "Split third, 6-item grid." - Keyboard shortcuts you set move the front window to halves, quarters, thirds, the center, the full screen, or the next display. ## Layouts - Save where every open window sits as one of six layouts, and restore one from the drop-down, Control-Option-1 to 6, the Shortcuts app, or a seam://view/ link. ## Price and privacy - Free for 14 days, then $9.99 once, with no subscription. Family Sharing is on. Undo, History, and Settings keep working after the trial. - Seam collects no data and makes no network connections of its own. It doesn't read window titles, file contents, or the clipboard, and doesn't monitor typing. ## About the author Seam is designed and built by Brandon Holcombe, a product designer and design engineer in Sonoma County, California, who publishes through his studio, H Creative.
